Mystic Space Crowdfund!

This is the announcement for the Mystic Space full edition Weasel Funder.
The goal is simple: Get Mystic Space from Alpha to full release and then make it a regular part of the NWG line up.

What is Mystic Space?

From the original store page:

Featuring great heroes, stonking combat walkers, magical spells and an array of high tech weapons, Mystic Space is set in a remote galaxy where the Star-Born civilisations are collapsing into galaxy wide conflict as each of 8 factions struggle to impose their will on the future.

It is NOT a grimdark world. Its a world of bright colours, cool heroes and exciting adventure, taking as much inspiration and vibes from video games and anime than it does from classic science fiction and comic books.

Mystic Space includes:

-Easy and pretty quick game rules with a unique take on unit movement (measure for the squad leader, then deploy the unit around them)

-Core dice mechanic is 1D10 + character attribute. A 10 or higher is a success.

-Alternating activations with the ability for heroes to activate alongside a squad by taking command of it.

-Fortune points allowing each player 3 rerolls in a game.

-Weapons include area weapons that cover a blast radius , bolt weapons that blast through units and chain weapons that arc between targets.

-Spell casting system for some Heroes with 8 spells in the alpha version.

-Vehicle combat rules. All vehicles in Mystic Space are walkers. Get your mecha on!

-8 factions to play, each of which is detailed with history and personality.

All factions use the same basic army list to pick from but each has 3 special abilities that set them apart.

-Army list with 26 units to pick from. (Alpha version)

-7 scenarios, each of which calculates victory in different ways. Perfect for pick up play. (Alpha version)

-Extensive background information on life in the Mystic Space universe.

* * *

A typical army is 20-30 figures with a couple of vehicles. Anything from 15mm and up will work (but as long as you base individually, you can use smaller scales if you are determined). A typical gaming table should be about 3x3 feet across.

The game is miniatures agnostic, meaning that you can pick out exactly the figures you feel fit each faction the best. Additionally it includes a license allowing people to make and sell their own Mystic Space figures. So if you have a vision of what a particular unit should look like, you can create it either as a conventional miniature or as an STL and put it online or even sell it. This means that multiple visions of the same army can exist, allowing players to mix and match to get the exact look they are after.

What is the vision with Mystic Space?

I think there is a space, especially right now, for a scifi game that is club or gaming group friendly by having multiple exciting factions, that is fun and exciting instead of being overly grim and dour and which is creator and user friendly with regards to miniatures.

Along with actually being receptive to player feedback and allowing the game to be updated and improved, both with regards to rules, clarity and army list details as people play games and communicate their experiences.

What has already been done?

The Alpha version that has been available is a bit over 120 pages and features the complete core game rules, 7 scenarios, the standard army list with the units that are available to every faction, the basic spell system and armoury.

This means the core system has been tested and you can begin playing games immediately.

What will the crowdfunding produce?

Faction specific spell lists. Currently the game has a single generic spell list but each Faction will receive its own list of spells that reflect their outlooks and tactics.

-Each Faction will receive 3 unique units. These may be units specific to them or Faction variants of general units.

-At least 5 pages of additional background information, further detailing the game world, technologies and history.

-5 pages of fiction. This might be a single short story, 5 single page vignettes or something in between.

-Full colour cover art. Yay! (Interior art will be miniatures photography)

-At least 3 additional scenarios to play through.

-Mercenary units that are available to all Factions. 5 units are planned.

What are some stretch goal options if we do well?

-Expanded Faction background detailing their views on each of the rival Factions (if you remember how White Wolf books used to discuss the different clans/tribes, something like that).

-Career mode  - A player can create a young, inexperienced officer and follow their career as they gain experience in battle.

-RPG mode - Added tools, task mechanics and a skill system so players can add RPG sections to their campaigns, perfect for those who want a deeper experience or who like to play with a GM controlling the enemy and the players cooperating against them.

-Rules for creating custom “Splinter Factions” that have seceded from the main groups and are carving out their own corners of the universe.

-Solo guidelines - This will not be a full solo campaign game, but some tools to make it easier to “two fist” the game and create your own linked battles against the enemy.

-Prototype of the Battle for Haven game mode, allowing small teams of treasure hunters to search the ruins of the fabled colony of Haven for loot, while fighting off hostile lifeforms and each other.

What is the future of Mystic Space after the crowdfunding?

As I have discussed on Patreon and elsewhere, the plan is to have a set of “core games” of which Mystic Space is one, that will receive regular expansion packs.
The vision for these expansion packs is that they will cover a particular battlefield, location or sector of space, add new items, units and spells and expand the setting with background information and new scenarios.

Each expansion pack will advance the time line, allowing Mystic Space to function as a “historical science fiction game” where armies use particular weapons or tactics during a specific campaign.

What is a Weaselfunder?

A Weaselfunder is very simple:

I tell you what I am going to make, then you send me money. When the thing is made, then you get a game. Huzzah! Basically its a preorder. The risk inherent in any preorder is weighed by you against my track record writing games.

The address is nordicweaselgames@icloud.com

The expected retail price for the book will be 25 dollars.

If you already bought the alpha, you get it 10 dollars off.

To get a copy, if you already bought the Alpha, you send me 15 dollars through Paypal. If you did not, its 25. When the game releases, you then get a code for the Wargame Vault to redeem your copy. (You can request an Alpha copy in the meanwhile so you can start painting and playing right away).

In the event the final book ends up being huge and more than 25 dollars, if you pay this way, you get it for what you paid.

If you want to help make the game happen but are a bit tight, you can throw in a lesser amount and when the game is done, you contact me for a discount code for what you paid.

Finally if you really want to see this become a reality, you can pay more in as well. There are no tangible benefits for doing so, other than getting your name in the credits and helping make the game a reality.
